they call me mellow yellow

When I say “saffron,” what comes to mind? If you’re hungry, you might say paella. Otherwise, you might be thinking about Michelle Williams at the 2006 Academy Awards in that iconic Vera Wang number. Either way, saffron is the common ingredient, the name of the game. And honey, she is having a moment.

While this color may be too bold for most as your main room color, it certainly makes for a lovely accent. Perfect for summer or fall, it’s warm, glowy hue gives us all the feels. Lying somewhere between orange and yellow, saffron is a wonderfully intrepid pop of color. Used mostly in upholstery, there’s no reason you can’t think outside the box with this adventurous hue, like the staircase above - stair risers are a perfect place to show off a fearless paint choice.

Lots of retail spaces are taking their cue from this fashionable color, adopting it as a distinct accent. Follow the lead to the restaurant BB DIFC and design a banquet bursting with character - black and white pairs quite nicely with saffron, it turns out. Another option is coupling this hue with a variety of blue tones, like this outdoor daybed. This lounging area is made extra magical by picking up the candle light emitted by the lanterns that hang just above it. We hope that such a rich and welcoming color doesn’t go anywhere any time soon!
