A New Year's Day Brunch for a Smashingly Good Time

bitches love brunch

Anybody can throw a New Year’s Eve party - it takes a real pro to host a New Year’s Day brunch. Gather everyone, from tots to *potentially* hungover adults, round your kitchen and living room, turn on the Rose Parade and enjoy the first lazy morning of the new year. The key here is to keep is casual. Nobody wants to get dolled up the morning after the world’s biggest party. Encourage your guests (at least the ones who didn’t sleepover) to show up in pajamas, sweats, whatever makes them feel good. And if that happens to be a full face of makeup and getting their hair did, then good for them. Read on for our top five tips on how to throw a relaxed and memorable New Year’s Day brunch.

1. Mimosas ‘R’ us

Seriously, is it even brunch if there aren’t bottomless mimosas? Don’t leave your guests hanging. Set up an area where everyone can self-serve. If you want to go the extra mile, provide a few juice choices and garnish options. Make sure there are plenty of beverage options for those who don’t imbibe. Caffeine shouldn’t be forgot, either, so set up a coffee and tea station, too. Check here throughout the day to replenish any stock that’s running low and keep the party going.

2. keep it casual

Since you don’t want to ruin your fun the night before by prepping away, keep things casual in the kitchen. Don’t fuss over intricate dishes. Pick things up in advance that you can heat up or put out the morning of. Have a mini buffet set up or a giant brunch themed charcuterie board. Whatever fits your space and the amount of energy you’re willing to put into it. Don’t forget to cater to your guests’ dietary needs! Make things everyone can enjoy.

3. munch away

Add some savories for later in the day when people want to keep nibbling but aren’t as interested in breakfast foods. If you’re a group that’s into football, think about making a chili or two (like one meat, one veggie) in advance, then heat them and serve with a variety of garnishes for your guests to choose from. If you’re not into chili, make a sandwich board, a breakfast burrito station (for your morning’s leftovers), or keep some polenta warm for dishing with various toppings.

4. add in some health

New year, new you…right? Even though we call BS on new year’s resolutions over here, you should never skimp on your fruit and veg. Make sure to include some healthier options in case some of your guests are trying to cut back on their winter holiday gains. Salads, fruit, and veggie platters are all easy solutions.

5. turn up the cozy

This last one has nothing to do with food and everything to do with atmosphere. Embrace comfort on this fine, lazy morning. Stock up on throw blankets and pillows, keep the temp just right, and snuggle with your friends and fam. Enjoy the day and take it slow!
